How do you “game night”? Are you all about global domination or skilled at sinking ships? Is framing someone (with the wrench in a ballroom) or spending your time in jail (without collecting $200 or passing go) more your style? Maybe your thrill comes from playing it straight (or three of a kind) or rolling the dice with five in mind.

However you “game night”, the ECH Game Night Live-Trivia Edition will have something for you. We will capture the fun of game night through engaging visual questions from fun pop culture categories. This will be the most fun you’ve had in a long time!

Frequently Asked Questions

TECHNOLOGY

What technology do I need to participate in virtual trivia night?

Each person logging into the event needs a computer, smartphone, or tablet with internet access. You will also need an email address to receive the event link and instructions.

Do I have to download any programs or apps to access the event?

The event will take place on Zoom. You do not have to download Zoom to your device to join this event; Zoom can be accessed directly through your web browser.  When it’s time for the event to start, simply click on the link that we send you to join the fun.  That being said, if you do not have the Zoom app on your device, the system may suggest you install it, though you can skip this step if you choose.

Do I have to have a webcam and a microphone set up to participate?

You do not have to have a webcam or a microphone to access the event, though that might take away from your overall virtual experience.  When you join the event, you will be able to see and hear the emcee, speakers, and questions on your screen.  But, part of the fun is being able to see and hear you too.  Also, your team will be put into a breakout room during each round to discuss (or debate) the answers.  Without a microphone or webcam, this would be challenging.

TEAM INFORMATION

Do I have to have eight people on my team?

Teams should consist of no more than eight (8) adult players, though you can play with fewer people if you wish.  General admission teams cost $160, regardless of how many players you have. That averages out to $20 per player for a team of 8.

Can my team pay individually for their tickets?

Yes, players on a team may pay separately; however, the team captain must register the team first by contacting Stacey at 314-427-3755 ext. 231.  You will then receive a link to send to your team members, or it can be accessed here.

I have paid for my team; how do I get you the names and email addresses of my team members?

When you pay for your team online, you will receive an email prompting you to fill out this form.

Can my kids play? Do I have to pay for them to play?

It’s family game night, so we encourage you to have your children participate with you during the event.  Middle school-aged children and younger do not “officially” count toward your team total, so you do not have to pay for them.  High school-aged kids should be included in your team total.

What does a VIP Team receive?

VIP teams receive the VIP treatment!  Each VIP team will receive a Game Night Snack Pack, a verbal shout-out during the event, and both “game cheats” per round.

What is a Game Night Snack Pack? How will I receive it?

Game Night Snack Packs are filled with yummy snacks, tempting treats, and goodies for your entire team.  Snack Packs will be delivered to your team captain’s home (within the St. Louis Metro area) before the tournament. Snack Packs will also be available for pick up at ECH.  Specific delivery and pickup dates, times, and locations will be communicated closer to the tournament date.  If your team is playing from multiple locations, the Snack Pack is easily dividable amongst your team members.

GAMEPLAY INFORMATION

Does my team have to meet virtually, or can we meet in person?

Your team can gather together in one location or log in from up to eight separate locations – whatever makes the most sense for your team. We must have an email address for every person logging into the system.

If my team meets in person, can more than one team member login from the same location?

Absolutely, as long as we have an individual email address for each person logging into the system. It might be advantageous for each person (or couple) to log into the event to easily access the online auction, raffle, and payment links.  It is important, though, to turn off the sound to all but one device located in the same room. Having multiple devices picking up and playing the same audio may cause unwanted feedback.

How do you play virtual trivia?

Virtual trivia night is a lot like in-person trivia night, but instead of gathering in a banquet hall, guests gather in a virtual chat room, and you will be able to see all the guests who have logged on.  Throughout the event, you will be able to see and hear the emcee and the question screen.

When gameplay starts, all players will see and hear the questions at the same time while in the main event room.  As the questions are presented, players should jot down their answer (or guess) for each question.  Once all of the questions have been presented, teams will automatically be placed into a private breakout room. At this time, you can discuss the questions and answers with your team.

Your team captain will access an answer sheet through a link that will be provided (a Google Form Document).  Your team captain (or designee) will type in your team’s answers and submit them by clicking the submit now button.  After the allotted discussion time, guests will be brought back into the main room to continue play.

Once back in the main room, answers from the previous round will be revealed, scores will be shared, and the new round of questions will begin and the process starts over again.

What type of questions will be asked?

Trivia night questions should be fun…not remind you of a history class you slept through in high school.  We have partnered with Trivia Riot to present fun visual questions from pop culture categories of music, movies, games, and more.

How many questions will there be? How long will the event last?

While we are still working out the details, the event will last for approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, and there will be around 70 questions.  This is slightly shorter than our past in-person trivia nights.

What are “game cheats”?

Game cheats don’t actually permit you to cheat – so don’t try!  However, they can help improve your team’s success during gameplay.  For example, a set of Mulligans gives your team a free answer per round, and a set of Either/Or gives your team two guesses on a question instead of just one. Each game cheat set is available for $20 per team (or $40 per team for both).  Keep reading for more descriptions about how to use Mulligans and Either/Or.

Game cheats are available for purchase at registration and will be sold at the event before gameplay; also, game cheats are included with each event sponsor and VIP team.

How do Mulligans work?

What happens when you have no idea what the answer to a question is?  If your team purchased a set of Mulligans, you can write “Mulligan” as the answer and get the point for that question.  Think of it as a free answer per round. Your team can use one Mulligan for any question of your choosing per round.

How does Either/Or work?

Is your team stuck between two answers and cannot decide which one to write down? With Either/Or, write down both of the answers you think could be correct, and if either answer is correct, you get the point.  Think of it as two guesses for the price of one. For example, if you think the answer to the question is either Bob Hope or Jay Z, write them both down with “either/or” in-between them.  If either of your answers are correct, you get the point. One Either/Or cheat can be used per round on the question of your choosing.

What type of in-kind donations are you seeking?

We are looking for items that can be used for the auction, raffle, prize packages, and giveaways.  Item, both large and small, are welcomed. Some ideas include board and card games (to go along with our game night theme); gift cards and certificates for items, services, or experiences; and electronic items such as a smart TV, laptop, home appliances, or an Apple Watch.  By donating items, you help us keep event costs down – which increases the impact the event has on our programs.  Also, all in-kind donors will receive recognition at the event.

Are items tax deductible?

We will provide you with a receipt for your donation, and you can claim the fair market value of the items on your taxes.  If you have big-ticket items or a high value of multiple items to donate, we may be able to exchange them for a team or sponsorship at the tournament, though this may affect tax deductibility.

When are items needed?

Please let us know as soon a possible if you plan on making an in-kind item donation so that we are aware of it and can plan to use the item in the most meaningful way.  We would like all items in hand by Friday, April 23, 2021.  Items can be dropped off at the ECH Rock Road Campus, or call our office to arrange a pickup.

OTHER INFORMATION

Will there be an auction? How will it work?

We will use the platform 32auctions.com to house our silent auction.  Links will be provided before and during the event so you can see all of the items available and bid on things you like.  You do not have to download anything to view or bid on auction items; the platform works from your web browser.

How will I get the auction item if I’m the successful bidder?

If you are the successful bidder of an auction item, the item will be available for pick up at the ECH Rock Road Campus, or we can arrange to deliver it to you. ECH staff will reach out to you following the tournament to make arrangements with you.

What does an event sponsor receive?

The benefits of becoming a Game Night Event Sponsor include a VIP team of 8, an on-screen promotional slide, and a 30-second promo video. The promo will take the form of an interaction between your company designee and Mike Brennan, our CEO.  In most cases, the promo will be pre-recorded but will be played live during the event.  It will be tailored to highlight your business, your relationship with ECH, and our appreciation for your support.

What is a round sponsor?

There are two sponsorship opportunities per category/round. The first opportunity is during the question portion, and the second is during the answer portion.  Round sponsors receive an on-screen promotional slide and a verbal shout-out during the event. The promotional slide should be in the format of a PowerPoint slide or a PDF file.  Design and submit your promotional slide on your own, or we can design it for you.

Do I have to own a business to sponsor a round, or can I do it as an individual, family, or group?

Anyone can sponsor a round.  It works great to promote your business, but you could also use it to promote a group, announce a special occasion (like a birthday or anniversary), or show your support for ECH with this funding opportunity.

I have another question that was not addressed in this FAQ, what should I do?

We will frequently add and revise the information on this FAQ list.  However, if you have a question that has not been addressed, do not hesitate to reach out by email or phone.
