In 2022, five siblings entered foster care after enduring unimaginable neglect. None had ever been enrolled in school and had significant developmental delays. Because of their complex needs and the trauma they had endured, the siblings had to be placed in separate homes. Though this was a difficult decision, their case worker, Maddi, worked closely with foster families to ensure each placement was carefully chosen to meet the unique needs of every child and provide the space they needed to begin healing.
Over the next year and a half, Maddi collaborated with the foster parents to support the children’s progress while also prioritizing their sibling bonds. Weekly visits helped the children maintain a sense of connection even when apart. When reunification with their biological parents was no longer possible, Maddi focused on achieving the next best outcome: bringing the siblings back together. After many conversations and careful planning, one of the foster providers opened her heart and home to all five children. The transition was not without challenges, but with consistent collaboration, the siblings learned to live together again, rebuild their relationships, and thrive in a safe, loving environment.
Today, these five siblings are flourishing in the home they now call their “castle.” They are imaginative and resilient. For Maddi, their case worker, watching their transformation and reunification has been the most rewarding part of her work.
