September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, promote hope, and normalize help-seeking. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 15-24 in Missouri and the 2nd leading cause among ages 10-24 nationally. The populations served by ECH are at particular risk.

ECH is proud to to integrate mental health services into each of our programs, helping the youth in our care access the healing they need.

Our staff has the following advice for people who are struggling:

  • Open the conversation. If you are concerned about yourself or others, reaching out for support may be incredibly helpful. The 988 lifeline is open 24/7 for people who are struggling as well as for those who are looking for advice about helping others.
  • Create a safety plan that can act as a guide during difficult moments. Click here for a sample plan.
  • Connect with resources for ongoing support. ECH provides psychiatric services, individual counseling for children and families, and residential care for youth who could benefit from intensive services.
