The ECH School is licensed for children in grades K through 12. Children are placed in classrooms of no more than 10 students with a teacher and teacher assistant in elementary, middle school and high school groupings. Curriculum is based on Normandy School District’s curriculum requirements. Students received individualized and small group instruction based on their IEP and other educational needs. Core curriculum classes and credit recovery programs are offered as well as Read 180, a highly effective computer-based reading program that has increased students reading Lexile an average of two grades per school year. Students also have the opportunity to take several electives, including personal finance, health, sociology and job skills, among others. The ECH School enrolls students from our residential treatment program as well as qualifying day students from the surrounding community.
An alternative to traditional public school, a key component to the ECH School are the licensed clinical social workers who provide daily therapy to help students with their behavioral and emotional challenges. ECH School offers the children enrolled the opportunity to participate in several programs including student council, Soar Awards, assemblies, Girls’ Circle, Boys Mentoring and Junior Achievement as well as other programs designed to boost student self-esteem, morale and participation.
Teachers and therapists work with students and parents to help them succeed and return to their community schools. Graduation and GED assistance is provided on a case by case basis.
